Andrew T. Atkinson
Andrew Atkinson brings more than 20 years of experience in public education to his role on the Oxford Area School District Board of Directors. A longtime high school social studies teacher in the Avon Grove School District, Andrew is dedicated to strengthening school–community partnerships, promoting civic engagement, and supporting high-quality public education.
Andrew grew up in Southern Lancaster County and is a graduate of Solanco High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Social Studies Education from Temple University, a Master of Arts in School Counseling from Wilmington University, and completed the School Principal Certification Program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Andrew comes from a family deeply committed to service. His father served as the Pastor of Oxford Presbyterian Church from 1986 until his passing in 2004, his mother worked as a Registered Nurse at Ware Presbyterian Village, and his brothers currently serve as officers in the United States Air Force and United States Army. This family tradition of serving others has strongly influenced Andrew’s own commitment to education and community involvement.
A resident of Oxford since 2005, Andrew previously served on Oxford Borough Council from 2007–2011, where he worked collaboratively on bipartisan initiatives such as the creation of the Oxford Youth Advisory Council, the Oxford Arts Alliance, and the launch of Oxford’s “First Friday” events. In 2019, he completed an Academic Internship with the Oxford Area School District, an experience that deepened his understanding of district operations and strengthened his commitment to serving local students, families, and taxpayers.
One of Andrew’s guiding principles is the belief that the Oxford Area School District must create the best conditions for learning. This focus was shaped by mentors who instilled in him the importance of building supportive, student-centered environments where every child has the opportunity to thrive. This philosophy continues to guide his work on the board and in the community.
Andrew and his wife—an active community volunteer and Registered Nurse—are proud parents of two Oxford Area School District students. He considers his family his greatest source of pride and motivation.
First appointed to the school board to fill a vacancy, Andrew is committed to being a responsive, pragmatic, and team-oriented board member. He believes strongly that board members serve as ambassadors for the district and should celebrate the achievements of students, staff, and the wider community. He is proud to have supported the district’s upcoming capital improvement projects, recognizing the importance of safe, modern facilities for both academic and extracurricular success.
Andrew looks forward to continuing to work collaboratively to support students, engage the community, and help build upon Oxford’s strong foundation for the future.
