Debbie K. Vendrick

I have been a resident of Elk Township since 1980. My husband, Kent, and I designed and hand-built our current home beginning in 1977. We raised our three children (all OASD Alum) here and have enjoyed being a part of the Oxford community.

I was hired as a Kindergarten teacher by OASD in 1975, the year I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware. I enjoyed teaching my Kindergarten students in Jordan Bank School for close to seven years. In 1982 I left full-time teaching to raise our children and then returned to the district as a Third-Grade teacher in Nottingham School in 1990. I earned my Master's Degree in Reading Instruction from Lincoln University in 1994. My last five years of teaching were spent as a Reading Specialist at Nottingham School, and I retired from the district in 2014.

Kent, a Mechanical Engineer at W.L. Gore and Associates, was very involved in the Oxford community. It was under his vision and leadership that the Oxford Area Historical Association worked with the OASD to construct the Hopewell Bell Tower memorial, which sits at the corner of the Jordan Bank School.

OASD holds a special place in my heart, and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on its school board to promote and ensure a quality education for all our students. I will work to build on the long legacy of OASD’s rich history as it continues to offer a wide variety of opportunities for our students’ futures.
