OAHS students plant trees to buffer creek

Oxford Area High School students in Craig Carlough’s AP environmental science class, members of the Envirothon team, Diane Miller’s plant and soil and agricultural science classes, and the high school chapter of Future Farmers of America spent all day on April 25 planting approximately 450 trees on the school campus near Little Elk Creek. The project, in partnership with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, creates a natural barrier to keep pollutants from the creek and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay, one of America’s most vital and threatened habitats.

AP environmental science students who participated in the project are seniors Ashley Dively, Reagan Dolinger, Jacob Hewes, Noah Hewes, Colin Lilly, Becca Jordan, Brandon Rubbo, Liam Smith, Brad Tansey, Jacob Tomasulo and Matt Towey, and juniors Abby Cummiskey, Sophie Distenfeld, Liz Estes, Lexi Fetrow and Sean Walsh.

Envirothon Team members who participated in the project are senior Luke Winand, sophomores Turner Hannon, Carolena Ortiz-Nava and Gregg Rubbo and freshmen Gabby Gold, Maddie Smith and Emiliano Zetune.
