Citadel Heart of Learning Award nominations now open
Do you know an Oxford Area School District teacher who takes his or her students to heart?
How about one whose innovation and enthusiasm in the classroom inspires students to want to learn?
Can you think of a teacher who goes that extra mile to work with students outside of school hours?
The Citadel Heart of Learning Awards, fondly referred to as the Academy Awards for Chester County teachers, has begun accepting nominations for the 2020 awards.
In a joint collaboration, Citadel Federal Credit Union and the Chester County Intermediate Unit created the Citadel Heart of Learning Awards. The program is designed to recognize and thank Chester County’s teachers while raising awareness of the impact that their hard work and dedication have not only on their students and the student’s families, but on the entire community.
Anyone can nominate an active teacher whose innovation and enthusiasm in the classroom inspires students to want to learn.
Fifteen finalists, one public school teacher from each of the 13 public school districts in Chester County, one teacher from the Chester County Intermediate Unit and one teacher from a Chester County non-public school which also includes charter and home schools, will be chosen from the nominations and will be recognized at the Citadel Heart of Learning Awards banquet held in May.
Each finalist will receive $500 to use in their classrooms. From these 15 finalists, three winners (one high school, one middle school and one elementary school teacher) will be awarded with the Citadel Heart of Learning Award and an additional $1,500 to use in their classrooms.
In addition, Citadel holds the "Schools with Heart" contest, which rewards the entire school for nominating teachers. The top three schools, in terms of overall nominations, will receive funds to be used for school assemblies or special events.
In January, the Citadel Heart of Learning Award committee will tally the total number of nominations by school. The top three schools will earn cash for events or assemblies: First Place - $1,500; Second Place - $750; Third Place - $500.
Heart of Learning Award nominations are open through December 31, 2019. Nominations can be submitted by anyone – other teachers, students, parents, friends or family.
