OAHS Scholarship Opportunities

The following scholarships are currently available for application by members of the Oxford Area High School Class of 2021.

United States JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship

Due: January 22, 2021

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors in the United States, where that state has an active JCI Senate program (see www.usjcisenate.org  [under scholarship] or www.usjcisenatefoundation.org for a listing of eligible states). You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this scholarship. 

To submit your application package: Refer to the website www.usjcisenate.org or www.usjcisenatefoundation.org, under the Scholarship section.  Locate the state where you live. The due date is postmarked January 22, 2021.  Do not submit the application to any address on the web page except those under the State Scholarship listing section (packages submitted to the wrong address will not be forwarded).

The Pennsylvania JCI (Junior Chamber International) Senate is an organization affiliated with the Pennsylvania Jaycees and the United States JCI Senate. Together, they promote leadership training through community involvement and believe “that service to humanity is the best work of life.” Our commitment to working with our communities and serving others is the basis for our scholarship program.

Sun East Federal Credit Union: People Helping People 

Criteria:

  • Must be a high school senior pursuing higher education.
  • Must have participated in a minimum of 40 hours of community service within the last 2 years.
  • Must have a letter from an authorized representative associated with the community service activity verifying the student's participation.
  • Must have the name of a high school teacher making a recommendation for the student for this scholarship (a letter is not needed at this time, just the name and contact information of the teacher).
  • Application must include a 200-300 word essay on the impact his/her efforts had on the community and how this experience influenced the student's future.
  • Student cannot be an employee, a relative of an employee or volunteer of Sun East Federal Credit Union.
  • ONLY INCLUDE THE REQUESTED DOCUMENTS! Transcripts (does not need to be official & can be emailed to you by Mrs. Auch), resume, and attached application. Any other documents not listed above will be excluded when submitting to the scholarship committee.  

Award Amount:

  • $1,000 to be presented at the Senior Awards Night in May. 

Due Date:

The Wharton Scholarship

The Wharton Scholarship will be awarded to an Oxford Area High School Class of 2021 senior based off the below listed criteria.

Applicants must submit ONLY the following:

  • Fill out the personal data form.
  • Essay: 1 paragraph explaining what you are passionate about.
  • Your high school transcript (Unofficial Copy).
  • Copy of Acceptance letter(s) from your post high school institution(s).

ONLY INCLUDE THE REQUESTED DOCUMENTS!  Any other documents not listed above will be excluded when submitting to the scholarship committee.   

Award Amount:

  • $500, to be presented at the Senior Awards Night in May. 

Due Date:

  • Completed application (click here) is due no later than February 5, 2021.  A drop box will be located at the main office of the high school for drop off.  

J. Donald McLeod Memorial Scholarship

One $500 scholarship, sponsored by the Oxford Rotary Club, will be awarded to an OAHS senior who has shown excellence in their Academics and Community Service involvement, in memory of J. Donald McLeod.

To be eligible for consideration by the scholarship committee you must submit the following:

  1. Application must be submitted with your demographic information.
  2. Essay explaining the extracurricular activities and volunteer programs you participated in.
  3. Your high school transcript (unofficial).
  4. A copy of a letter of acceptance from your college/university you plan to attend.  If undecided, submit acceptance letters from the colleges are you considering. 

ONLY INCLUDE THE REQUESTED DOCUMENTS!  Any other documents not listed above will be excluded when submitting to the scholarship committee.   

Award Amount:

  • $500, to be presented at the Senior Awards Night in May.

George & Georgiana Jackson Scholarship

The George & Georgiana Jackson Scholarship is awarded to an OAHS graduating senior on the basis of a future in education.

Eligibility:

The recipients must be graduating from Oxford Area High School and be accepted to a secondary institution to study in an education field (Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, etc.).

Requirements:

To be eligible for consideration by the scholarship committee you must submit the following:

  1. Application must be submitted with your demographic information.
  2. One page essay answering the question: Throughout your whole education, which teacher influenced you the most and why?
  3. A copy of a letter of acceptance from your college/university you plan to attend.  If undecided, submit acceptance letters from the colleges are you considering. 

ONLY INCLUDE THE REQUESTED DOCUMENTS!  Any other documents not listed above will be excluded when submitting to the scholarship committee.   

Award Amount:

  • Will be announced and presented at the Senior Awards Night in May. 

Due Date:

Jeffrey V. Palita Memorial Scholarship

One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in memory of Jeffrey V. Palita to a Class of 2021 senior who plans to pursue a career in Broadcasting or Communications. 

Jeffrey V. Palita, at the age of 17, was killed on May 14, 2005. Someone speeding at 105 mph hit his car and he was killed instantly as he was leaving the Oxford Bowling Alley at 9:46 pm. He was the son of James and Jensine L. (Goodman) Palita. Jeffrey was a senior at Oxford Area High School from where he would have graduated on June 10th. He was planning on continuing his education at Connecticut Broadcasting School in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Criteria:

  1. Application must be submitted with your demographic information.
  2. Your personal statement explaining your intended major and career goals (no more than one typed page, double spaced, 12 font).
  3. Your high school transcript (unofficial).
  4. A copy of a letter of acceptance from your college/university you plan to attend. 

DO NOT include any additional documents than what is listed above.  Any other documents not listed above will be excluded when submitting to the scholarship committee.  

Award Amount:

  • $1000, to be presented at the Senior Awards Night in May.

Andre J. Dupuis Memorial Scholarship

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Class of 2021 Oxford Area High School senior who is entering trade school post high school. The recipient of the award will be someone who is passionate, just as Andre was.  

The following will need to be submitted to the guidance office (drop box in the main office) by Friday March 12th:

  1. Personal Data sheet (click here)
  2. Transcript (unofficial)
  3. A two to three page essay, typed, describing how you have exemplified the character traits of respect, responsibility, courage, and kindness. Please specify where you have used each trait (respect, responsibility, courage, and kindness) in your life (both in and out of school). 

Younger Family Scholarship

The Younger Family Scholarship was established to provide an opportunity for an Oxford Area senior to continue his or her education after graduating from high school. The donors encourage application by those who intend to pursue post-secondary education.

Preference will be given to first generation college students, but that is not a requirement to apply. Applicants may pursue a 4-year college program, a 2-year program, a community college degree, or a program at an accredited trade school.

The selected recipient will be awarded $40,000, $10,000 per year for up to four years. If the cost to attend the desired program is less than $10,000, the amount awarded will be maxed out at the program cost. Applicants must maintain a 3.0 average each year to renew the scholarship.

The scholarship winner will be selected based upon his or her academic record and completed application. The student must have a minimum grade point average of 2.8 to apply.

4) Official transcript from OAHS (only the transcript request form should be submitted with the application.  Guidance will get official transcripts out to the scholarship committee)

5) Letter of recommendation from a teacher or employer (this must be included when you submit the complete application)

6) Typed essay - maximum of 250 words - choose either prompt

-How will obtaining a post-secondary degree affect my career choices? or

-Please explain an accomplishment (not school related) that is special to you.

All forms are due to the Guidance Office by Friday, March 12, 2021.

The scholarship winner will be announced at the OAHS Senior Awards Assembly in May.

 Chester Delaware County Farm Bureau Scholarship

The Chester Delaware County Farm Bureau offers a scholarship of up to $1,000 toward higher education of Chester County, Delaware County, and Philadelphia County high school students pursuing a career in agriculture or an agriculture-related field.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • The applicant must be a high school senior whose parent(s) or guardian(s) reside in Chester County, Delaware County, or Philadelphia County.
  • The applicant must plan to major in the field of agriculture, or an agriculture-related field, at a two-year or four-year college on a full-time basis.
  • Selection will be based on the applicant’s record of scholastic achievement and extracurricular activities without regard to race, sex, religion, or financial need. o The scholarship is non-renewable.
  • The application form must be accompanied by the applicant’s transcript showing grades and the applicant’s SAT scores.
  • Two letters of recommendation must accompany the application. High school guidance counselors, teachers, and/or community leaders must write the recommendations.
  • The application form must be accompanied by a copy of the college Letter of Acceptance.
  • Selection of the recipients will be the responsibility of the Chester Delaware County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.
  • Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

PROCEDURES: Scholarship Application (click here) and accompanying documents must be received on or before March 15, 2021. Personal interviews may be conducted.
