Kristen E. Dean
My name is Kristen Dean and my husband, Michael, and I have been residents of Oxford Borough for over 10 years. I graduated from Grove City College in 2000 with a BS in business management.
For six years, during and after college, I managed a small business in Ocean City, MD. After college, for two years, I was the program manager of a homeless shelter.
Currently, and for the past 12 years, I have been providing job coaching and one-on-one assistance to a young lady with autism. I have also coordinated Delaware's mixed and women's Ultimate Frisbee leagues (the latter of which I was a cofounder).
Oxford is a wonderful, up-and-coming community and I relish the opportunity to serve here. I have volunteered at the Lighthouse Youth Center nearly every Monday for the last five years. I am also active in my church, Oxford First Baptist.
Some extracurricular activities I enjoy include playing Ultimate Frisbee, fixing up our 130-year-old house, and advocating for children in various capacities, both locally and throughout the world.
Relationships are very important to me. I believe positive changes must come through relationships. In many ways, this is more important than ever.
Technology has made healthy interactions more difficult to pursue. Youth, in particular, would benefit from learning to navigate and appreciate face-to-face relationships.
Every person has value and, therefore, something of value to contribute to each other and to society as a whole. It is my aim to instill this truth in every individual within my sphere of influence.
I desire to serve the Oxford Area School District because I truly believe that the best way to improve a community is to invest in the children. I am already invested in many of the children in this community, so I believe I can provide valuable insights into their unique needs.
Varied and numerous life and work experiences have honed my problem-solving and peace-making skills. I am also passionate, hard-working, and I give myself fully to my commitments.
I look forward to using these traits and experiences throughout my term on the school board.
