    PaTTAN East Training Updates:

    The Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education is pleased to announce the following Attract-Prepare-Retain (APR) Networking and Learning Community Events for Paraprofessionals. Join us for a specialized professional development series designed to empower paraprofessionals in the special education classroom with effective strategies for managing behavior. This series is tailored to equip paraprofessionals with practical tools and techniques to create a positive learning environment, enhance student engagement, and address

    Title: Strategies for Addressing Challenging Behavior
    Date: February 26, 2025 (4:00 PM – 5:30 PM)
    During this virtual networking session, paraprofessionals will learn how to establish cooperative behaviors. They are the best investment classroom staff can make and is the foundation for effective instruction. Participants will be provided with practical information related to preventing and managing problem behaviors that are commonly seen in the classroom environment. Participants in the session can expect practical strategies and techniques that they use to foster cooperation, enhance motivation, and manage behavior effectively. The goal is to create an environment where students feel supported, engaged, and ready to learn. Following the presentation, participants will be provided time to network, ask questions, and share ideas and resources.

    Title: Proactive Behavioral Interventions and the Paraprofessional Role
    Date: May 7, 2025 (4:00 PM – 5:30 PM)
    During this virtual networking session, paraprofessionals will review the behavioral continuum and discuss the best way to support instructional delivery from the paraprofessional vantage point. The presenters will feature data collection, prompts of prior learning, and ways to boost active student response. Following the presentation, participants will be provided time to network, ask questions, and share ideas and resources.

His work with school districts across the Midwest has led to significant advances in curriculum building, literacy development, and team development. He has been recognized as one of the foremost innovative leaders of unified programs across the nation. His work in leadership development, RTI/MTSS, English Language Learners (ELL) programs, advanced learners (gifted and talented), implicit bias/diversity, school safety, nursing, school enrollment, early intervention, counseling, and public relations allow him to bring a systemic awareness to program development

    This training will provide information on the types of social identities and how implicit biases impact interactions with others. Participants will learn about the four dispositions and indicators of belonging as well as how vulnerable decision points are developed. The concept and details of neutralizing routines will be shared and participants will engage in activities that will help the development of their own neutralizing routines.

    Objectives

    At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

    • Identify their own social identities
    • Describes the four dispositions of belonging
    • Describe the importance of knowing their own implicit biases
    • Recognize their vulnerable decision points
    • Create a neutralizing routine(s)
    • Recognize microaggressions
    • Describe the indicators of belonging
