    2024 Chester County Envirothon

If you are interested in science and you enjoy learning about the plants and animals of Pennsylvania, then the Chester County Envirothon competition is for you!

The Envirothon is an environmental competition for students in grades 3-12.  Each year students from public, private, and parochial schools highlight months of preparation with a competition held at Hibernia Park, Coatesville. The 5th grade Hopewell Envirothon team will compete in the Elementary Level (grades 3-5) on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024. The 6th grade Hopewell Envirothon team will compete in the JV level (grades 6-8) on Thursday, April 25th, 2024.

We will be giving a qualification test to interested students the first full week of December (4th-8th).  The tests will be given Monday through Friday mornings from 8:00 to 8:40 in Mr. Barcus’ room (room 127). Please come any one of those mornings.  On Tuesday, December 12th, the 20 winners of the qualification test (ten - 5th graders and ten -6th graders) will be announced on the morning news.

The Envirothon groups will have practice sessions every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. starting on Thursday, January 4th, 2024, in Mr. Barcus’ room here at Hopewell School.  The major topics that will be studied this year are the mammals, birds, trees, shrubs, vines, wildflowers, fish, invertebrates, reptiles, and amphibians of Pennsylvania.  The 5th grade will also study outdoor safety and the 6th grade will work on Soils. The theme for this year has not been decided, yet.

We look forward to seeing you the first week of December!
