    COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

    2025 WORLD HISTORY CP

    Credit 1.0
    This course serves as the basis for study at the College Prep Level. World History CP is a study in our global community’s past,
    emphasizing the people and events that changed past societies, and how these changes affect our modern society. The course is
    separated into lessons comprising of the following topic areas: Early civilizations, the rise of Christianity, and civilizations of the
    Americas, societies of the Middle Ages such as the Byzantine Empire, Asia, the regions civilizations of Islam, Africa, and the spread of
    Civilization in East and Southeast Asia. Other topics include include geography, wealth, freedom, religion, conquest and discovery.
    The course closes with the emergence of new nations, regional conflicts, the developing world and the world today. Understanding
    of the material will be conveyed through many web-based activities, primary source analysis, and research projects.
    Prerequisite: 70% or higher in College Prep English and College Prep Social Studies

    2030       WORLD HISTORY HN

    Credit: 1.0

    This course fulfills the tenth-grade social studies requirement. The course intensely examines the geography, peoples, histories and cultures of focus topics of Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America. Topics related to the study of World History and Culture will be researched. The Honors course emphasizes critical thinking, working with primary sources, and recognizing the interpretive nature of historical writing.

    8030       FRESHMAN SEMINAR

    Credit: 0.25

    This course will be required of all entering ninth-grade students. The purpose of this course is to assist ninth-graders with the transition to high school and prepare them for the higher level of academic work. Students will participate in lessons and activities that use a variety of both innovative and traditional teaching techniques. Students will learn effective study strategies, note-taking skills, time management, as well as social and human relations skills they need to succeed in their major academic subjects and everyday life. Furthermore, students will be exposed to the wealth of opportunities that await them following graduation from high school, including college and career prospects. *Special Note this course is paired with Personal Finance to comprise a full semester of coursework.
