Course Objectives:

- Apply an understanding of literary terms (such as plot, setting, characterization, etc.) to the analysis of class readings.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the narrative, informative, persuasive, and creative modes of writing with an emphasis on five-paragraph essays.
- Review usage, mechanics, and grammar related to writing and speaking standards.
- Display an enriched vocabulary.
- Contribute meaningfully to classroom discussions.
- Develop creative thinking, problem solving, and independent study techniques.
