Mrs. McGinn

I’ve been working as a Reading Specialist in the Oxford Area School District for the past six years.  Prior to that, I worked in West Chester Area School District and Unionville Chadds Ford School District.  My teaching journey started over twenty years ago, working as a first and second grade teacher. In 2003, I earned my Masters in Reading and became certified as a Reading Specialist.  Over the years, I have become passionate about teaching children how to read and write.  I am an active member of the International Dyslexia Association, and have attended several conferences gaining insight on Dyslexia, ADHD, Working Memory, and Executive Function. As a Certified Academic Language Therapist, my instructional approach emphasizes the necessity for explicit language teaching to be systematic, cumulative, direct, and sequential. Knowing first-hand the various learning styles, I’ve successfully devised and implemented instructional plans to meet individual needs. Diagnostic-prescriptive lessons focus on individual needs of the student, while creating pathways for students to become proficient readers.  It is my hope that all students will develop a positive mindset toward reading and gain confidence to become successful life-long learners.
