    Take a moment and imagine this scenario: You are an everyday hero. On a daily basis you protect the citizens of the fifth largest city in Pennsylvania. For 20 years you have devoted your time and energy to your job. Also, you attend school to further your education and you have a large family to spend time with.

    For Mr. Mark Talbot, Sr., this scenario is his life.

    After Mr. Talbot graduated from Oxford Area High School in 1988, he chose to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a police officer. His career began as a correctional officer at the Chester County Prison for four years.

    In 1994 Mr. Talbot joined the Reading Police Department as a patrol officer. After serving eight years in this position, he became a patrol sergeant and then an investigations sergeant. In addition, he served as vice section lieutenant.

    Mr. Talbot has been the deputy police chief of Reading since 2007. He has also been a speaker at an international conference in Baltimore where his topic was driven policing. On top of his extensive resume, he continues to enhance his eduction by pursuing a degree in organiational leadership at Penn State.

    Mr. Talbot's childhood dream has become a reality and has helped many people along the way.

    Today, Oxford Area High School is recognizing a man who is courageous, hardworking and devoted to protecting the people. It is my honor to introduce a new member into the Oxford Distinguished Alumni, Deputy Chief Mark E. Talbot, Sr.
